A reader asked..
We just adopted a sweet labardor. When we got her we noticed that she had a little trouble with her hind legs, but her foster mom reassured us she was fine. This was a relief, as we mentioned that we’d be moving to place with stairs shorlty. So we took her home and fell in love with her instantly. Since then, we’ve taken the dog to the vet and he confirmed our nightmare. The dog has severe hip dysplasia. This means she’ll have a terrible time walking up and down stairs (already very noticeable). We don’t want to be selfish and plan to give her back if there’s nothing we can do. We hate to subject her to daily pain if it could be prevented. But we want to know what you’ve done in the past for getting your elderly dogs upstairs. Have ramps worked? If so, for how long? What have you tried? Thanks for your feedback and ideas.
Unfortunately, I can’t keep her downstairs. We are moving to a house with stairs from the street level.
