Doggy Has Attitude! How Do You Fix It?

My dog was rescued a year and half a go from the humane society. We took her out to dog parks and ran her daily. Never really having any true behavioral problems except for the occasional dog fight at the dog park. Well last winter we hardly took her out at all because of the weather. Well it is spring and we are again taking her out three times a day. Well the first thing we notice that she lunges and barks at other dogs while on the leash and has becomes extremely whiny on walks around that park. Also we can not even step foot into a dog park because it is seriously not safe for anyone or thing to be around her. So my question is how do we fix this behavior with out spending 200 dollars on a class provided by the humane society. I want to be able to take her out and not be embarrassed by everyone looking at us because she is throwing a fit.

I’m afraid that if you want her to be SAFE then you’re going to need to spend that $200… or more, even. There is only so much you can learn through the internet OR books, and some stuff simply HAS to be hands on.
I would look around for a behaviorist – not a trainer. Behaviorists work with specific behavior issues and trainers merely get your dog to do something on command.
Your dog does not need obedience work (though it is a good idea eventually) and i’m betting that treats will not get her attention at ALL (these cases are known as “red zone” cases.) She needs perfectly times corrections and rewards, and you need to learn how to read her body language to KNOW when to give these corrections/rewards – only a behaviorist can give you that.

First of all u need to show her that u are alpha.. U are in charge.. I would put a muzzle on her then ask a friend who has a dog to meet u at the dog park. Have her walk past the dog several times with her dog. If Your dog shows signs of aggression I would Put him on His back and hold him down. This it showing you are boss. U might have to do that several times. Eventually u can take the muzzle off and do the same thing. U need to take her to the dog park with the muzzle on. Of course u are prob. thinking she is not going to like the muzzle but she will get used to it. Also if she IS pulling a lot on the leash get her one that goes around her body it will help u keep control. Same for the Whining.. Put her on her back and she will get the point.
As far as taking her for walks. I know what it is like as Far as weather goes. I live in Indiana. But U cannot walk 3 times a day to none.. Even if it is once a day for a 20 min walk its better then none. Unless u have a fenced yard with plenty of running room. That is partly why she is acting this way now.. She forgot how to act.
