MY ROOMATE DOG IS 18 + and i am constantaly seeing his last days comming ,while he is in good health.?

This is a hard one for me ,I love my guy very much ,he has been with me for over 10 years,after being abandoned or lost.We are very close and I have that kind of love relationship to him other pet owners understand who feel the same way.I want to prepare for the inevitable, I enjoy each day I have with him.He is fantastic.what can I do to best prepare without being morbid,that will make my relationship less worrysome of the day that I regret feeling is the future.I know this is not an easy question and I know i am in the day and molment when I am with him ,I expect nothing more from him ,I love his senior years,I love seniors,But we dont have to have the experience of putting down all of our loved ones,do we? Any first hand advise is appriciated

If you are looking for advice, My suggestion would be to learn how to use spellcheck.
Best thing my family have done in the past is buy another young pup a couple of weeks before you give the old fellow the jag.
this way he gets to see what a dog should be like full of life etc and knows his time is us. I know it sounds daft but the dogs my parents have done this with have went to the vet a jumped on the table a lot easier than they had done during their deterioration.
also my parents found it easier to deal with the grief as a new puppy was jumpy about cheering them up.
I know it sounds like, heres a look at your replacement, but if you see it for yourself it makes it easier for the dog and the owners.
if you get another Freind a younger freind. before you know what happens. some of the old ones personality will be passed on.
Its somthing you fear, if you love him you fear and dread his last days
just concentrate on ‘now’ it’s losing something precious is never easy, just think positively, you know you’ve done your best for him, so just enjoy everything you have & spoil him extra if you can.
i’m sure he’s happy all things considered anyone who’s had a full life would be so… allow yourself the grief because it’s natural everyone in your situation would feel the same but everything has it’s time so concentrate on now

I know how you feel. I had a beautiful 90 pound German Shepherd, that I loved dearly. She was getting old, and nearing her last few months she has left, and I just didn’t want to have to put her down, but the vet said she was in pain due to arthritis, and hip problems. She was loosing weight, because she could not chew her food anymore like she use to, and she was unable to make it to the door some nights when she had to go out. She was always afraid of storms, and toward the end, she could no longer jump up on my bed, so when we has a bad storm, I would sleep with her on the floor. The day finally came when I had to have her put down, and I cried every bit as much as when any person I knew died. I will never forget her, but I know she will be with me again some day, and will be there to greet me when I die. I now have another Shepherd, and he is a sweetheart as well, he helped fill that void and emptiness I felt when my dog Kristy died. I know it is hard, but you too will pull through it. Just give him as much love as you can every day you have left with him, and when the time comes to let go, it will be hard, but you wont want him to suffer anymore. Take care.
