What Do I Do To Help My Dog?

My dog fell down a few steps of stairs at my sisters house yesterday morning. No broken bones, but since then, she wont walk on it. Im very concered, but dont know if this is something I should wait out, or take her into the Vet.. The soonest I can go to the vet is Saturday. Any advice on what I can to to help her, or make her feel better?

  1. You don’t know if anything is broken until you see a vet and have radiographs taken. That is the ONLY way you will know. Until you get her seen by a vet, keep her strictly confined…only outside to use the bathroom. No playing, no walking or jumping.
You absolutely cannot give her any pain medication until she is seen by a vet. Human medications are very harmful to dogs and cats.

  2. Without a radiograph you can’t accurately determine if the dog has broken bones or not. Right now avoid strenuous activity and if possible do not allow your dog to go up and down stairs, run around, etc.
Call your vet to ask for their advice. They will probably want to see her and if the soonest they can get her in is Saturday and they feel comfortable with waiting that long then do it. In the meantime they may have other suggestions for what you can do to keep her comfortable.

  3. She may of sprained something. The best thing you can do is make her comfortable, and try to keep her off of the limb, keep her calm and restrict her activities. Good Luck.

  4. If there is swelling or pain when you move the leg the dog should not wait to be seen. If it’s just to where the dog doesn’t want to walk on it (try to make her by having her shift her weight onto that foot) give her a baby aspirin and wait another day ot two at most before you take her in.

  5. I presume it is a leg that is in pain?
Do NOT give her any form of human pain reliever.
Dogs can die if they take ibuprophen.
Check her leg for swelling, bleeding, lumps. Touch her gently to see where she hurts. If swollen you could apply ice every for 15 minutes every hour and then wrap the leg (not too tightly) in an Ace bandage until she can see the vet.
Hope she is okay soon and it’s nothing serious. Poor baby…

really rest is the key – she will feel better after a couple of days. When this has happened to my dog (not the falling part but she has a bad leg) he prescribes pain pills and she just sleeps for a couple of days and then feels better and walks on it just fine..Until she over does it again.
Silly bulldog thinks she is a spinger spaniel

  7. If you haven’t taken her to the vet, how do you know she has no broken bones? If she’s not walking on it, there’s something wrong. I would take her to the vet right away. The spending of the money is well worth the peace of mind for a pet you love.

  8. Try taking her to the vet and see if she needs to rest or get something for it. When my dog fell she did the same thing and wouldnt walk on it. Maybe get an appointment and see if she walks on it before then. If she does still take her to the vet. HOPE IT WORKS!! I feel so bad for her. Let me know what happens! xoxmissemxo@yahoo.com
