Looks like a pit bull mix to me???
The baby will be fine for a little while longer. Where is your friend? If you can call her let her know what is going on. Maybe she has some suggestions.
If you can not reach her this is what you need to do. Call a friend. Have him or her bring something to the house that the dog would have a hard time resisting, like fresh bacon or a nice steak. If you can get the friend in the house, have him or her lure the dog into a room with access to a hopefully fenced yard(or at least a door that will lock) Close the door after the dog.
If this don’t work you do need to call animal control. This dog is too over protective. This is a dangerous situation. Do protect yourself for your health and the baby’s.
Your friend should consider boarding the dog when she is not there to take care of the dog and the baby.
    Good Luck.

The dog views you as a threat, this is not a LOL sitch. Call the Friend now. The food bait is a good Idea. If you can lure the dog to a room with a door or even outside you can take care of the child.
Hopefully the baby will cry itself out and you can lead the dog to the yard and take care of the child. If you can’t get to the child over a period of time and a strong assertive person this dog trusts can not come over you may need the authorities to step in. Best of luck to you.

  3. Miwa H says:

Well, if it is your friends dog and 8 month old baby the dog must have grown attached to the baby in order to protect what he thinks as danger.
In the dogs mind, it thinks your the predator in dangering the baby, but you are actually trying to help.
Don’t worry the dog will not hurt the baby since it has grown attached to it.
The best thing for you to do is have the dog be outside at that time, so you can get to the crying baby.
Sooner or later try connecting with the dog so the dog thinks your a friend, this will allow more contact with the baby
    Hope it helps!

  4. Abbigail says:

put the dog in another room before you go upstairs, then attend the baby. when the baby is settled, let the dog back out and give him a treat if he behaves well while he was in the room. don’t let the dog in contact with the baby just in case.

  5. Dan says:

It’s only for 2 days and they are not your dog and your baby. So you don’t need to train the dog, and you don’t need to understand why he is doing this.
Just trick the dog, do what you need to do. Nobody gets hurt.

  6. Momma MJ - Baby Boy due 10.8.09 says:

Put him outside; with shelter and food/water.
Take him to a kennel until the owners get back.
Take the baby to your house and come to take out and feed dog a couple times a day.
(Never babysit and dogsit for them again?)

  7. BYB get the flock out says:

Call the owners. Act like you are ignoring the baby and get the dog to go outside, then tend to the baby. He could see you as a threat to the baby.

  8. Salt&Pepper Apricot says:

Call the owners and ask them. Perhaps put the dog in a crate, downstairs, in a separate room, etc, before tending to baby.
