My Husky Dog Getting Very Restless At Home. What To Do?
He runs and jumps inside the house too much. He is always going from 1 room to another. He climbs stairs up and down for no reason. He even tried chewing carpet and sofa.
he also circles the tables several times. This is an ongoing problem with him and he just never seems to relax or calm down.
I take him for 10 minute walk in the morning. And other people in house also walk him other times of day.

huskies are high energy dogs – they love to run and they love to work – 10 minutes is definitely too short even if other ppl are taking him for a walk – 10 minute per person is still too less – it needs to be a looooong walk – and since they love to run i suggest biking – there are spring attachments where youc an buy to attach ur dog at the collar to the bike so they can’t pull you off. just because it’s winter it’s not a reason to not walk him – huskies strive in the cold – he needs to get rid of his excess energy before he starts destroying the house – never use a dog park for ur dog to release energy – it’s a fight waiting to happen. Walk or run with ur dog before bringing your dog into the park to release that energy – an excited dog entering a dog park is a target for other dogs.
He needs WAY more exercise, a few walks a day just won’t do it. He needs to run, jump, play, and then run some more. Can someone play Frisbee with him? Can someone go for a long bike ride with him running along? Is there a dog park where he can run loose and socialize with other dogs? There are a million more things to do with him, just DO THEM!!
He needs a 45 minute, non-stop walk, everyday. Think about his breed…he runs in the FREEZING cold for hours pulling a sled. He needs a purpose. Take him to the dog park if your community has one. Go rollarblading…do something active with him and burn that energy!! HE IS BORED!!!
He needs more walks, and more exercise in general. Take him for a 30-45 minute walk in the morning, and another 30-45 minute walk in the afternoon/evening. Play fetch with him, run around with him in the backyard. He NEEDS more exercise!
He is bored out of his mind. He needs 2 to 6 hours of excersize a day, you can break that up, but 10 minutes isn’t going to satisfy his need for long range running. Try getting a wagon sleigh or a weight sleigh (later) for him. But first, he needs to be walked, or jogged for a much longer period of time. If you live in a warm cliamate, shave him down and make sure he is hydrated well BEFORE each run. You will be amazed at the transformation.
Huskys were bred to run from sun up to sun down.
Literally.
They were bred to pull sleds and not get tired.
They need an EXTREME amount of exersize.
Hours of hard running every single day!!!
I can’t stress than enough. 10 minutes walks is torture for him. Staying indoors is torture for them.
They are also smart. Scary smart. Smart as children.
Take up jogging, teach him to run next to a bicycle. Put on inline skates and teach him to be a sled dog.
You do it, or hire someone who will.
Consider re-homing him if you don’t have time.
EDIT TO ADD:
People are suggesting 30 minute walks.
That isn’t enough. This dog needs at LEAST 2-4 hours.
Yes, HOURS!!!
Every single day. Rain, shine, blistering heat, bone chilling cold, EVERY DAY!
Your dog needs a job if you can’t give him enough exercise. Get him a doggy backpack, and when you walk him load it with a little weight so he knows he’s carrying something.
(P.S. This is the Cesar Millan solution)
Huskies are very active dogs…remember they are & were used in dog sledding…this should give you an idea of their energy levels. Dogs only chew on carpets , furniture, sofas, etc. when they are bored out of their minds. You need to keep him busy when at home on his own with dog toys & other things to stimulate him…like bones, etc.. Take him for at least an hour walk each day. If you can find a dog park near you. He will burn off alot of energy there & aswell be socialized with other dogs. Don’t be too alarmed by his behaviour…he just needs outlets to release his energy. Hope this helps.
Longer walks..might want to get him a dog backpack to make the walks more challenging for him. Or you could bike or rollerblade with him.
Take him to the vet and ask about the drug “reconcile.” It is for anxiety, which sounds like what your dog has. Also, check out a behavioral specialist.
Well I hope the others are walking him more than 10 minutes. He sounds a lot to me like he’s busting with unspent energy. Try walking him at least once a day for 3-5 miles, maybe jog a little off and on if you can. It’s great for both of you!
Other suggestions: Teach him to run while you bicycle or roller blade. Get a treadmill and teach him to use that. (I haven’t done this myself but I’ve heard of other people doing it). Take him to a dog park and see if he enjoys playing frisbee. Teach him to pull a cart (he ought to take to that, you could even let the kids ride in the back or even you..these dogs are strong!), or use a doggy pack pack you can add some weight to. He just needs a place to use up that mountain of energy and if he doesn’t get it there’s going to be trouble ahead.
P.S. Sometimes within a breed there are individuals. My sister’s Husky was fine with minimum walks (unusual), but you dog is letting you know he isn’t happy, he clearly needs more. In the wild a dog can leave a pack if they see a reason to leave that makes them happier, and they do that. With us they don’t have that choice. Think of your child growing up and leaving home, it happens. I know you love your dog, but dogs are individuals. If this particular dog isn’t getting what it needs for it’s own happiness, finding it a home where it can get what it needs for it to be happy is not a betrayal, it’s an act of love. I don’t mean this in a bad way. Maybe you can make adjustments that will make everything work, maybe you have health or time issues that make it impossible. But if not find it a new home where it can be the dog it wants to be. I’d do it in a heartbeat if it meant my dog would be happier, if it was in her best interest, even if it broke my heart. Just be careful it’s the right place where it’s needs will be met. I think dogs can handle it quite well if it’s needs are well met and it’s done without frequency. I’m probably going to make some people mad saying this, but I feel it’s right
Bonsylar said it very well
EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE. What your dog needs is a serious amount of exercise and recreation time mostly outdoors. When you sleep until late and stay home the whole day it is hard to fall asleep because of all of the stored energy. Your dog must feel the same way; he feels the need to use all his energy so that he can rest. I recommend longer and more walks a day. If you don’t have enough time to do long walks just do many (about 4 or 5) short ones throughout the day. I also recommend playing with him or having him do anything that can use up energy in a convenient way for both you and him. I wish you the best of luck!

Huskies are independent, energetic dogs and it sounds as though your dog just isn’t getting enough exercise (mentally or physically).
The restlessness and constant jumping and pacing are signs that he’s experiencing a lot of pent up energy, without a postitive outlet for that energy he will become destructive and difficult.
He needs a 30 minute walk twice a day, plus at least one vigorous playtime inbetween. You could also give him some sturdy, interactive toys to keep him busy and entertained., There’s a good selection of these kinds of toys at this url http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/indes…
It would also help if you took him out with you and socialized him frequently. A dog obedience class would probably also be helpful. Both of these activities help to keep him interested and involved, plus the nervous energy he’ll expend on these outings will help to tire him out.
Best of luck.
try to find a local dog park in your area (there out there, google for them, of call the city, or ask a a pet store) they are the greatest thing ever! take you dog there and let the other dogs run around with him!
i was having the same problem you are, after i took my cattle dog for the first time he went home and slept for 7 hours! i take him 2-3 times a week for at least an hour and he stoped chewing and is a lot calmer in the house!
husky’s are working dogs so need a lot of exercise. a friend of mine had a husky and he was not walked enough, he kind of went a bit loony. also husky’s are pack dogs so need to be with other dogs but i don’t think this is an option if you cant walk them for at least 30 min a day.
he needs exercise bad!!
A big dog like that NEEDS at LEAST one 30 minute walk a day. Preferably two. Save your furniture, walk your dog.
