How Can I Get My Dog To Go Potty Outside Instead Of Inside?

I have a black, 9month old, MALE Pomeranian. We got him as a gift from our grandmother. He would go outside to potty at her house.
But when we brought him home, he pees on the floor in the kitchen and poops it the SAME spot down stairs. We tell him NO and the normal stuff. We dont let him see us clean it up. And someone told us to put his poop outside so that when he goes out there he will learn to go.
We have had him for about a month now. ANY help!?

  1. Dont listen to the people who say to lock him up in a crate! All you have to do is take him outside for a long….long…..long…. walk. Untill he pees or poops dont bring him inside! As soon as he does his business give him the tastiest treat, a big hug and repeat in a good calm voice that hes a very good dog. You might have to do this for at least a week but soon your dog will get it. As for the messes he leaves behind in the same spot put a doggy pad in that spot. Its easy to clean, just throw the pad in the garbage. Pads should always be left at home just in case its an emergency and you have no time to take him out for a walk. Remember to walk your dog 3 times a day(for a start) and never bring him inside untill he does his business. Then he should learn.

  2. I tried everything nothing worked for my dog so every morning right when i wake up I take her on a walk and she goes outside now! Your dog may not be like mine so try…
Pads- there called training pads or potty pads you can get them at baisicly any animal shop the scent draws them to pee on them you can just put it on the floor of your house in the same place all the time

  3. We used a paper towel to clean up the pee, placed it in the yard for the dog to find. She started peeing in that area. For the poop, I carried her with me, told her NO, picked it up with a paper towel, placed it in the yard, sat her down and petted her. It worked well for us. We also use a crate for nights, and when we leave the house.

  4. Who ever told you to put the poop outside is right, make sure you take the dog with you when you do it, then give it a treat when you get out there. Crate trainging is worth worshiping, try it.

  5. take him outside when he wakes up and after meals. and stay out with him until he goes. praise him when he goes potty outside. dogs really want to please us ,so let him know when he does!
be consistant and take him out regularly, he will learn

  6. When he gets up in the morning, first thing put him out on leash. Bring him in feed him and put him out again on leash to go potty. The first time he prob will only pee. Then about
3 or 4 hrs later put him out (always on leash) and tell him go potty. Sometimes you have to remind them why they are out there. ha!
Three or four hours later put him out again, and each time tell him “go potty”. And after his last feed put him out. And of course before you go to bed. You may need to take him out more often depending on his needs. But first and foremost be consistent.

  7. Dogs do not like to go potty in the same place they live/sleep. That is their nature. You need to use their natural instinct to train the dog. Feed the dog in the morning, and then take him for a walk and let him relieve himself (use doggy bags or the neighbors will already hate your dog). Put him in the crate (after potty) when you are gone. When you come home, immediately take him out to let him relieve himself in the yard. Praise him for doing the right thing!! Dogs need to go about 3-5 times per day. If you deprive him of that, there will be accidents, and it is your fault, not the dog’s. Once he establishes an outside peeing area, he will go back to the same place. You have to be consistent in the first few months, meaning you can take the dog out to the park to do his thing, but establish a routine for when you expect it (right before bedtime for example) in the yard. Dogs love and thrive from routine. Feed and walk him at the same times each day, and he will follow the routine with glee.

  8. This might sound harsh, but it is not going to hurt your dog in any way, tap its nose to let it know it did wrong. Praise it with a treat when it goes outside. Or you can resort to a last resort, crate training. You are gong to need a crate that it can stand up in but not move around a lot. Ask the vet what size 2 get. then put it in a crate whenever you leave the house or go to sleep and eventually it will earn. Right when you let it out of the crate, put it outside. It will learn.

  9. 1. Buy a crate, if you don’t already have one.
    2. Use bleach to thoroughly clean the area the the pooch soils.
    3. do NOT let pup run free until he is completely, I repeat, COMPLETELY house broken.
If he’s not going outside, then he needs to be leashed and taken with you at all times, or at least kept in his crate.
I warn you, he’s not going to going to enjoy being crated, but you need to stop the habit before it gets even further set it.
Also, try the matchstick method to get him to go poop outside. (I know it’s gross, but it works and that’s all that counts):
    1. After you feed/water the dog. Pick him up and stick a matchstick in rectum.
    2. Do not put him down, leash him and take him outside to his “spot”. He should go immediately.
    3. Reward him and praise him, but take him in immediately.
You may have to repeat this each time you want him to go potty (at least 3 or 4 times a day) and continue for about 3 days, but then he’ll get the idea of “why” you’re taking him outside.

  10. Crate training. Give him treats when he goes potty outside. When you are gone, put him in the crate. When you come home, take him out immediately and let him go potty, then give a treat. Make a big deal out of it and praise him. Keep doing this and he’ll learn fast. When you are home, take him out fairly often to give him a chance to go, and don’t forget the treats!

I had the same problem with my 18 month old shih tzu. She was peeing and pooing all over the house. I did some research over the internet and I found out that if you feed your dog and then walk it between 10-30 after you’ve fed it, it’ll use the bathroom during the walk. Eating puts pressure on a dog’s bladder, so that’s why it’s a great idea to feed them and then take them outside so they can release the pressure. I realized that I wasn’t walking my dog enough, as well. She gets 3-4 walks a day, and there’s no more accidents in the house (unless I miss one of her walking times, lol). So put your dog on a feeding/walking schedule. For example, my dog gets fed at 8am, 12pm, 4pm, 8pm, and possibly 12am if she doesn’t eat at one of her meal times. Then exactly 10 or more minutes after she eats, she goes outside and does her business. It worked like a charm. Hope this helps!!!

  12. buy a dog crate, put him in there for the night to sleep. the next morning, take him outside to potty first thing before he gets to do anything else. if he goes, make sure you praise him and pet him, make a big fuss of what a good puppy he is.
if he doesn’t go, put him back in the crate. let him stay for 15 minutes, then take him outside again to potty. if he doesn’t go, do the same thing over and over until he does. then when does make sure to tell him how good he was!
you should do this a few times a day until he learns to go outside. when he pees/poops in the morning, then he gets to play for a few hours… then take him outside to use the bathroom after lunch. if he doesn’t go, he goes back in the crate. take him out 15 minutes later, etc. etc.
whatever you do don’t punish him for going in the house if you find it after he goes!! if you see him doing it, put him in the crate for 15 min, then take him outside! don’t rub his face in his poop or tap his nose or any of that stuff if you catch him going… it isn’t necessary and doesn’t help.
also don’t understand crate training being refered to as a “last resort”… it should be the first thing you do when you get a puppy that isn’t housetrained.
anyway this usually makes lots of progress within a couple days. good luck!
OH and to the guy down there that said “don’t be afraid to hit your dog”… you are an idiot. hitting your dog is not ok. plus she’s talking about a pomeranian… as in fragile… not a labrador mix.

About 5 minutes after your dog drinks something take him outside on a leash until he urinates. If you want to you can take him to a certain spot in the yard. while he urinates, praise him by saying “Good Dog” or whatever you would like to say. While you may be busy sometimes, your dog might end up urinating in the house if you forget to take him out. DON’T BE AFRAID to hit your dog after you’re pretty sure he knows to only urinate outside when he does inside. Don’t kill him but definitely don’t go too easy on him with the hitting after a couple of times.
He will know to stand at the back door soon enough when he has to urinate!
