Dog Squirted Anal Gland Stuff Everywhere?

A Reader Asks…

My dad scared my puppy so he ran up the stairs and there was like a spray of anal gland stuff all up the stair wall and im sure some of it got on the carpet.
How do I clean it?? It’s so gross
I think I cleaned most of it off the wall, but my carpet is maroon so I cant see where it is in the carpet
Will the smell go away eventually on its own?

  1. Here is a site that I would highly recommend. They have very high quality stain removal techniques. I would suggest repeating the process after the first application, and rinsing the rug out with cool water in between applications. Best of luck!

  2. Nature’s miracle is the best at cleaning stuff liek that up. Be sure to saturate the area in the carpet, let it set for a bit, and be sure to soak up as much as you can with a dry townl/cloth. You dont want it to set in your carpet leaving a lot of moisture behind. I actually went out and bought a bissel spot bot, a small carpet cleaning machine that retails for about 100 at target. I put the natures miracle down, let it soak in, then use the hand held part of the cleaner to suck it back up with. I guess you could use a wet/dry shop vac as well. Just be sure to get up as much moisture after using the natures miracle. You can also apply it on the wall for a good scrubbing as well.

  3. Get some Nature’s Miracle, either the concentrate (best choice) or solution and use it in a carpet cleaner machine. The kind of carpet cleaner you rent from a grocery store is just fine. The Nature’s Miracle stuff will neutralize the odor completely. Just do the whole area so you’re sure to get it all.
I hope your Dad is helping in the clean up!

  4. The smell will not go away on its own. You can try Nature’s Miracle from Petsmart or Petco. It works for urine stains and smells. But you MUST get it all out of the carpet or else your carpet is ruined. Poor puppy! Make your dad help you clean it up, he started all this.

  5. Vinegar will get all smell out of the carpet. Or you can try baking soda. I’d just spray some disinfectant like lysol down in case there is some left on the floor.

  6. Yes the smell will go away; however, if you sprinkle baking soda on the carpet and then vacuum it up that really helps.
