My Dog Sprained Her Ankle?

My dog seems to have sprained her back ankle… :( my mom says she came home earlier today and my dog was limping around. She (my dog) can hop around on three legs, occasionally puts a little weight on the back leg… it doesn’t otherwise hurt her at all when lying down or sitting.
She hasn’t whined or yelped at all, but you can tell that it hurts when she tries to walk. We put up a ramp from a door which worked okay but she slipped on it, so we now have put a carpet down on it and stabilized it better— hopefully she won’t be afraid of it the second time around! We have about 7 inches of snow on the ground, which is both good and bad (better if she trips, but bad as it makes her trip a bit).
We are going to give it a day or two to see how she does, as we are pretty sure that nothing is broken (it appears to be the actual foot/ankle that she doesn’t want to put weight on) and she otherwise isn’t licking or whining about it.
She probably has sneaked up on my bed, as she does sometimes when no one is in the house, and landed poorly when jumping down. She is getting quite old, and we’ve been having issues with arthritis in the front opposite leg. Luckily this has been better lately, but we have some pain meds that will help her.
Any tips as to help make her more comfortable, tips to help her get around better, ect?? She has been very trusting and good, listening and such– for example we had her lie down on her bed and then pulled it into the other room, something which under normal circumstances she probably wouldn’t tolerate. Thank you!!

  1. Some dogs sooner or later suffer from sprains, You are doing good by helping her. Keep an eye and see if it gets better. My dog is 12 1/2 years old and she is being given glucosamine/chondroitin for her inflammation. I also have a harness that i place under her belly to help her go up. My dog is a pampered pet in my house. When it is cold, she does not go out unless we put a coat on her. She is dried and sometimes we blow dry her on the parts that she gets wet when raining. Shepherd mix. Good luck.

  2. Take her to the vet and ask them, they are profetionals. They could have a really good look at your dog, and tell you everything you need to know. Good luck and I hope shes okay.

  3. Take it to the Vet.
